I got up, got ready and was determined to see as much as I could on foot.
Since I got lost the day before, I had already had a good idea of the direction I needed to go to get to City Hall. I had read that the tour was on the must list of things to do in Stockholm.
As I approached the harbour where City Hall is located, I was taken aback by the beauty of Stockholm, it was unlike anything I had seen before. The ice was breaking up in the water, and it made for some great pictures. Fortunately I ended up running into another tourist and we both took pictures for each other.
After I went inside city hall and joined the tour. The group was pretty big, maybe 20-25 people and the guy I had met before at the harbour was also there. I took quite a few pictures for him, i know it can be difficult to get pictures of yourself when your travelling on your own. City Hall was quite impressive, it's also where they host the Nobel Peace Prize. After the tour I decided it was time to get to the famous Galma Stan. I started walking in the wrong direction for about 10 minutes, but then I re-oriented myself. I had to walk over some massive bridges to get there. Stockholm is composed of many islands, so you have to go over bridges to get around most places. I walked around Galma Stan, it was packed with people, mostly tourists. Then I ended up at the famous square with the brightly colored houses. I walked past the grand palace towards the Statue of King Gustav where I once again ran into the guy I had met at the Harbour, again we took pictures of each other with the statue. Then he gave me directions to get to the Vasa Museum, I really wanted to squeeze it in before the end of the day.
It was a long way to get to the museum, I tried to find a T-Bana (subway), but I couldn't spot any signs. I decided to walk, even though it looked ages away. The walk was nice, but also quite wet because the snow was melting and the sky was grey.
Next thing I knew again I was walking in the wrong direction for about half an hour, I re-oriented myself and finally found the bridge that was suppose to take me to the museum.
The entrance fee was quite expensive 100Kr if you are an adult and 80Kr for a student.
The ship was massive! It's amazing that they were able to pull it out after all those years in the water. I have to say it was one of the most fascinating museums I have ever been to, I walked around for about 2 and a half hours.
After the museum somehow after some spinning around and confusion I managed to find central station which in turn lead me back to my hostel. When I got back in the room, it was already filled with a new cast. 3 American Army guys , a Dutch couple and I believe some America girls, but they were out. At one point it was just me and one of the American guys in the room, he started drinking Tequila on his bunk and we ended up getting into some heated debates about America and Canada then the Dutch couple came in, the the conversation went on for hours more. I had had enough and walked out to shower and eat, by the time the commotion was over it was pretty late. I was woken up at 2 in the morning by the America guy, drunk and screaming my name and trying to shake me awake. I told him off and went back to sleep.
